However they were only got 3 points and £60. So is the risk of getting caught and the low fine/points enough deterrent to stop watching DVDs whilst you are driving, no probably not.

I would have thought it at least careless driving and on the verge of dangerous driving.

Maybe the lorry drivers were watching the BBC documentary of 'War on Britain's Roads'............ and then maybe thinking of these terrible dangerous cyclists on the roads.

Nice one on the link. I see the foreign contingent are tarnishing the British truck drivers reputation AGAIN . I know we are not all immune from stupidity seat belts mobile phones etc. Howerver ive only ever seen the European drivers watching a film or cooking there dinner or with there feet up on the dashboard whilst trundling up and down the motorways. Nobbers.

In Italy, there are rumble strips between the inside lane and the hard shoulder. I was told that lorry drivers use it when watching videos. They put their nearside wheel just over the rumble strip and use the noise from it as a guide to where they are on the road while watching their films. I have no idea if this is true, BTW.

I had a friend / acquaintance who was a lorry driver and desperate to get out of it a long time ago. He claimed he used to read books while driving on the motorway. Toolbox on the throttle, feet up and read a book.
You'll always get people prepared to take chances.

Every time the coppers deploy their undercover tractor unit they reel in dozens of these contemptible goons who are doing anything other than concentrating on the road.

Lorry drivers bleat about their poor reputation, but in far too many cases it is entirely deserved.

Only the ones that care about there reputation bleat on about the idiots tbf. I dare say the amount of car drivers who get caught watching dvd's or texting applying make up etc etc is far greater its just not as big news.

You're missing the point, SLT said about 'other roads', which I presume were other roads other than the A1 and M1 which are talked about in the article. I've asked him to back this point up.

Sorry, I thought you were still on about the M1. Fair enough. Then again, SLT made a serious point - there's nothing to say that drivers aren't watching DVDs on other roads, but nor did he claim that they were, so there's nothing for him to back up, is there? I'd imagine most other roads in Leicestershire would demand attention from even the most square-eyed lorry drivers, but certain stretches of the A46 might not be immune. Would you be happier if the Leics police trolled up and down that road for a few days too? How about outside Leics?
