As long as I breathe, I attack.
After my pc went terminal and could not be repaired by recovery console or scan disk i had to doa reinstal of windows, the trouble is it has overwritten all my bookmarks and contacts in fire fox and thunderbird.

Also it does not recognize the programs on the drive even though they are still there.

You mean the programs don't work?

I'm quite chuffed as I have managed to get some files off of a disk I formatted by accident including my Thunderbird email but it probably isn't as easy as my problem...When I realized the error I didn't install anything on the disk and am going to try and recover as many files as I can today.

Thats right , seems i need to reinstall pretty much everything, i got firefox and thunderbird to work but it overwrote the contacts/bookmarks and where the backups are supposed to be according to mozilla does not exist.

I had the same problem a few years ago and I couldn't retrieve the backups either. I now use an addon called xmarks that harmonises my bookmarks between any machines that I choose and it also backs up my bookmarks at the end of each session to a remote server. And the good news is that it's free. ;)

I have backed up my bookmarks and they are on a flashdisk and also shared between various machines...Yes I know flashdisks can be unreliable....

The Mozilla boockmarks backup is a *.json file...
