I haven't seen one for years either. My dad saw one on me once, when we went down the pub, his response to it was "never ever tell girl you love her and don't get farking married".
The kids (well, mine) call them hickeys these days (too many American films). Not that they've had them, that I've seen. When I was 17, my then gf gave me one on each cheek. They looked really stupid (like I'd been in a fight) and took weeks to go away.
It's 'cos they spend all their time on t'web these days on twitter and facebook, and virtual ones don't show. None of this nasty unhygienic business of getting all close and personal. Think of the germs they might catch.
When I was a teenager my then bf gave me one on my neck I hated him for it and slapped him round the face!! I then came to the conclusion the hand mark across his face is more embarrassing than a love bite on my neck which was easy enough to hide!!
One of the girls had one at work. We did nights, she was the only female amongst a dozen men. She came in with this love bite and, seeing us all looking at her, said "My boyfriend did it to show you all I belong to him" We just looked in silence.
I had a gf who was a b.gger for it, I couldn't get her to pack it in. I was 29 at the time, and one of the guys at work used to inspect under my collar every morning.
