Out riding today I descended a hill hitting a max of 48mph, climbed the other side to regroup then noticed my front tyre,

That would not have been pretty blowing out at 48mph.
Released the pressure a fair bit & took a slow ride home, visiting the LBS on the way home for a pair of new tyres.
All is well that ends well.

Lucky.

I was out about 9 miles from home when this happened:

I decided to see how far I could ride back home before the inevitable long trudge back home.
God only knows, It only went and made it home. (where the pic was taken)
(BTW, the bike was clean before I took it down the muddy wintery lanes)

Vittoria Rubino. (rigid bead)

I've no complaints, they did serve me very, very well.

The very tyres I use for many 1000's of miles and have had no problems. How do you think you got that cut?
