I was driving on the southern section of the M25 today and passed a cyclist riding on the hard shoulder anticlockwise between J9 and J8 . Touring bike with panniers, reasonable kit (lycra longs, cycling jersey [not CC], helmet). He was doing a fair lick. Was it one of you guys?

Danny.

I have seen a cyclist stopped by the patrols going up the Queen Elizabeth Bridge from Essex. That is a fair climb as well considering you can just ask for a lift across it.

Apparently a cyclist was on the main carriageway of the Forth Road Bridge just before Christmas but you only get a lift its shut due high winds.

How do you arrange a lift across it? Any idea what vehicle they use to transport bikes across? If they can take trikes, that could be quite handy for me.

I shall give them a call on Tuesday with measurements and see what they suggest (and whether they have any rope available for the tow-bar ).

it's a land rover with bars on the back for bikes. Have used it a few times, have never had to wait for more then 20 minutes. You put your bike on the back and away you go. Very good service. Last time I used it I was with Arallsop and we got his Bent and my bike on there no problem. They do also have a trailer which I can imagine will take longer to hitch up.

I use the bridge at Dartford a lot. Usually wait about 5 - 10 mins, sometimes it's almost immediate. Bike goes on a rack on the back of a 4x4 and they take you from one control point to the other. It's a good service. They'll also drive your car across if you're afraid of heights (while you hide in the footwell no doubt)!

Was once tempted to cycle down the M25....it was chocker block as I cycled over a bridge which crossed it. A childish part of me fancied cycling down the outside lane, and in and out of every one

I carried on down to the A3, hoping I'd be able to (legally) do it there....unfortunately it was flowing smoothly, so I turned around and went home lol.

Good grief. That's my favourite obscure fact this week.
