Madone 3.1 or Domane 4.0

Hi all

Can't make my mind up which bike to buy ! the madone is £100 cheaper and has 105 componants, the Domane 4.0 has tiagra kit, haven't had a test ride yet but looking through the forum it sounds as though the domane is more popular, I am looking for a relaxed geometry bike is there much difference between the two bikes geometry wise ?? any thoughts please !

Not having ridden either, but my understanding is the Domane is just about the plushest road bike out there.

Yep, that really. The Madone series use the H2 geometry which is a bit more 'racey' whereas the Domane are more relaxed. I ride and H2 frame and sometimes wish I'd gone the other route, coming from an MTB/hybrid background

Both are great bikes, and the 3.1 is a great all-rounder in its own right, certainly not uncomfortable, but as the others have said, the Domane is built to be plusher and with a more relaxed geometry in mid. Better to get the right frame with slightly lower-end components, easier to change one than the other. If in doubt, your local Trek dealer should have both...

Not a big Trekie myself but have read a fair few test reviews in mags.

Trek I believe do a H1 H2 & H3 geometry - headtube height being a major factor.

It is true from reviews anyway that the Madone is more 'compact' and race oriented than the Domane which was built to win the Classics such as Paris - Roubaix etc.

The Domane uses a decoupling set up rear end (a bit like a semi suspension tech) for road bikes.

It is almost unanimously the most comfortable distance road bike available, again (according to magazine reviews).

So although I am no kind of expert - it would seem this is the one for you.

I am gonna go for the Hawaii 5.0 myself
