Magicshine Battery Fastenings - Cheap Crap

I'm well impressed with the quality of the actual light unit, but the plastic fittings on the webbing velcro strap that is supplied to fit the battery to the frame, fall far below a reasonable standard.

I treat all my gear carefully and usually get years of use out of it, however I was removing the battery intending a daylight ride and the plastic snapped, purely from the little bit of force that was required to pull the velcro apart.

Until such time as I get a reply from Magicshine, I've ended up fixing the battery on with cable ties, which is ok short term, but means I have to cut and replace them each time I want to remove the battery.

That's a shame.
I use a Magicshine light and it's a great little lamp but I've never used the battery mounting, I stick my batteries in my saddle pack.

The battery mount is a bit naff, it tends to foul my rear brake cable which runs along the top tube and occasionally slides down (compact frame) if it is wet. No actual problems with the strap so far though.

To avoid cables etc I hang my battery under the stem and use a cable tie to make sure the holder stays on. I have had the battery fall out of the holder once, even with a cable tie on, as it was on a little loose.

Nibble the plastic loops open/off and replace with simple small split rings like you get on key rings.

I'm looking for a 60 mm stainless steel oval, rather than split key rings.

Magicshine Customer Services were extremely prompt and immediately responded to my email of 12/01 and posted out a replacement FOC.

As much as it sounds like I'm ungrateful, I did tell them that I did not want a 'like for like' replacement, unless their supplier had improved the quality of the plastic component, and asked them if they had anything more substantial that I could purchase; which was not answered.

The part they posted was obviously stock and is just as flimsy as the original and I won't be comfortable using it incase it breaks at speed or while I'm in busy traffic.

I bought a triangle frame bag off e-bay for £5.99 which fits at the front of the bike frame to house my battery pack which protects it more and is tidy.

The same thing happened to mine (series 3 battery from mj-872), I was trying to do it up firmly and it snapped and pinged off into a bush. The way the battery comes when shipped implies the strap should go around the battery, around the frame, through the plastic loop and then velcroed off, which presumably means that the plastic loop is supporting some of the tension. If instead you do a full circle of the battery with the strap without going round the frame, then through the loop and round the frame, the battery ends up supported by a full loop of strap/velcro which seems to save the loop.

I was going to order a new strap online ~£7, but as it happened, my bad habit of carrying my phone, battery, lighthead, gloves, helmet, other lights out to my bike at once meant me stupidly carrying the battery by the cable and getting a slightly loose connection there, so i ordered another another battery for about £20 and will use the old one as a spare. http://www.bestofferbuy.com/magicshine-4pcs-18650-lithium-battery-cell-mj828-p-66446.html Ships from HK, took 2 weeks. This company sells the strap, but something bugs me about paying £7 for a strap that i already know is poor quality and barely worth 20p http://www.magicshinebikelights.co....or-series-3-battery.php?it=227&ca=12&p=1&so=0
