Decided to book a last minute trip to Majorca. I'm going on Friday (11th), staying in Alcudia at the Viva Tropic which I'm led to believe is very popular with cyclists.
Bike hire is arranged through the Hotel, cannondale supersix.

Just wondering if any of you guys have been out there, and what your opinions are.

I'm not looking to do excessive miles or climbing, as I haven't put in many long rides in the last year due to illness. But should certainly be capable of 60 milers and moderate climbs but nothing to steep, maybe around 5% average gradients.

The Viva Tropic is a decent hotel, I've stayed there a couple of times.
There is a company, Sportactive, which is based in the hotel. They offer group rides of varying levels. Check out their website as they may be able to offer what you are looking for or, at the very least, some advice.
Enjoy the sun and smooth roadss of Mallorca

Addictfreak....a nice ride from where you will be Cap de Formentera. Head past Port de Pollenca and then head uphill. I was there last October on my Koga World Traveller and it was no problem. On a road bike it will be easy enough.

If you go up you first climb up to a view point where ther is a car park and a Stone pillar. Get off and look at the view. You then have a good run downhill. When it levels off there is a sharp left bend. If you peel off right along the Earth road you return to the water and a nice cafe.

Set off uphill again and you have to go through a tunnel. Its not long but it is very dark, a head torch might help. When you get to the lighthouse it has a very good cafe.

You can get a very good Mallorca cycling map from Amazon Uk. It is worth having.

I have written a post on here about my trip but cant find it.

I am going to the Palma end of the Island in week 17. I am leaving my bike at home but might hire one for a day or two.

Thanks for the replies guys. Just returned yesterday, and I had a fantastic week.

The Viva Tropic turned out to be an excellent base. The Hotel itself is quite average IMHO but it has everything you need for a good holiday. I hired my bike from the hotel, and it proved to be a very good choice. The shop mechanic was spot on and extremely helpful. All the bikes were of very good quality and very well maintained. Although I had asked for a Cannondale Synapse, I ended up on a Cannondale Supersix and it turned out to be a fantastic ride.

I spent 4 days out of 7 cycling, and kept my rides at an average of 55 miles per day with approx 4000-4500ft of climbing per day. The guys I was with did quite a few more miles and climbing than me, but the purpose of their trip was to prepare for Lanzerote Ironman in a few weeks time. While for me the aim was to see how fit I was after a spell of illness over the last 16 months. I must admit, I was quite surprised that I did so well even feeling fitter day by day. Just need to maintain that now.

I must say that I have never seen so many cyclists, peloton after peloton. So many nationalities, and people of all abilities enjoying open roads and sunshine. The local drivers must be the most patient and considerate that I have ever come across.

Just got back from Majorca (2nd year) did just short of 600 miles in a week. Weather was excellent other than the last day when it poured down all morning. Climbs conquered included Soller, Deia, Lluc, Randa Monastry, Sa Colobra and what I consider the toughest Puig Mayor ("the Pig"). Home base was again in Puerto Pollensa. Pure Heaven for cyclists. Going back again in October for a week.

I got back yesterday. Its getting bloody hot down there.

We stayed in Can Pastilla, close to the airport. We walked into Palma the first day and Jannie developed a huge blister in the centre of her foot using a pair of walking sandals she has walked hundreds of kms in. The following morning I stood on a broken bottle on the beach and spent 2 hours in the medical centre.

No serious biking for us then.

But we did hire two €5 shopping bikes and rode to Llucmajor and down to the lighthouse at es Cap Blanc and back to Can Pastilla. I dont know how far it was but it was quite a whack on a shopping bike with a basket. It was nice roads and good fun.

You dont need a Carbon road bike to enjoy yourself on Mallorca.

I will post some photos later.
