Myself and a large group of club mates want to ride this event next year. The group will probably number 20-25.

It seems entry is limited to 8000 riders. Can anyone tell me if the places are decided by ballot or a simple first come, first served?

Currently we can get good flight and hotel deals and want to book sooner rather than later.

Hi Paul, it's first come first served, but didn't sell out for this years ride for a few weeks I believe. You may want to register early on their site to get entry updates/news.
