When I upload a track i've created in bikeroutetoster to my Garmin mapsourse program the track appears about 1/4 of a mile sw (relative to the roads marked on the map) of where it should be.

The same track appears correctly in google earth, mapmyride...etc.
How do I re-configure Mapsourse to correctly show my tracks?

Are there any free topo maps for mapsourse. The base map included (even if the roads were in the right place) is rather rubbish!

Why not create a short route in MapSource, upload it to Bikehike and see if it displays 1/4 mile adrift?

In MapSource, make sure you have the correct Datum setting (preferences).

Also, check this setting in the Windows registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareGarminMapSourceSettings

then look for a setting called

DrawDetailedMaps

If it's set to all zeroes you get to see an approximation of the road positions.

A track created in mapsourse doesn't appear correctly in any of the other programs and more importantly doesn't appear correctly on the Garmin.

I can't see anything that needs changing in the registry but then again I don't know what i'm looking for.

I have now been into the preferences and tried loads of different Datum settings. None of these have any effect on where the roads appear.

I can't find a setting called DrawDetailedMaps.

Dunno then 'tis a bit of a mystery. Sounds as though your map file is corrupted in some way.

The setting DrawDetailedMaps is an item which appears in a list in the registry, I'm a bit doubtful this is the problem because when it is set to zero the roads are a lot more than 1/4 mile out.

In MapSource, make sure you have the correct Datum setting

I've now found the DrawDetailedMaps and set it to zero and reset the datum as above (I also tried loads of others) none of these made any difference.

I've tried installing the mapsourse software on another machine (fresh installation) and the map is still in the wrong place.

I've even been and tried someone elses Mapsourse software and theirs has the exact same problem. However, they also have the topo maps of the uk (which I don't have) and simply switching over to these solves the problem for them.

It must be a 'glitch' with the version 4 base maps. Or theres some setting I don't know about.

Dear Redbike ,

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

Unfortunately the tracks you import will always appear offset from the
roads on the basemap, as the unit basemap is not 100% accurate. It is
only intended to give you an idea of your position and in order to see
fully accurate data you would need maps such as TOPO Great Britain. I

Nothing else is going to happen now. I wont be purchasing any additional Garmin products or software. I would un-install mapsourse completely but I need it to transfer the maps to and from the various 'free' maps on the internet. (Bike route toaster, Map my ride, Google earth).

Sadly i've had the software (although not used it) too long to send it back.

There's just no incentive for me to spend another £150 on a UK map when these free internet products are better!
