having watched his program and the info on bears I have researched Alaskan bicycle tours and there is a real issue with bears.

Always fancied Alaska but have decided I would not want to cycle tour through Alaska solo wild camping with the possibility of bear attacks.

Question is would you do Alaska solo on a bicycle tour wild camping on occassions with the threat of wolves/bears etc???

I've read a few CGOAB tales of people that have. They take precautions but it would bother me somewhat I must confess.

Precautions? I would take a cycling partner. I slightly chubbier, slower, tastier one.

Well maybe, but more to do with getting your food eaten, or your tent trashed by bears looking for food.

I suspect that there's more risk of being hit by lightning than being eaten by a bear.

that's why he's got a job being paid to cycle tour and we are sitting at the office!

When in Canada I was told how to tell the difference between a brown and grizzly bear should you see one and manage to climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and kills you, it is a brown bear. If it knocks the tree down and kills you it is a grizzly!!

Also they advised against using the bear repelant sprays cos it just makes them angry!!

Is it legal to buy guns in Alaska?
