Matte paint finish on cars. WHY?

I'm seeing matte paint on more and more cars.
Matte black is quite common now, but yesterday I saw a matte green car, it looked so bad that I wanted to ride up and tell the driver that his car looked totally shite .
In fact all matte cars look shite, matte paint doesnt work on something as big as a car, you can just about get away with it on a bike.
So why do people do it, usually to expensive cars?
ps This isnt the actual car, the one I saw was a Chrysler!

I once had a Saab that was matt grey, the same colour as the local road sweeper vehicle as my colleges informed me every time they saw it.

is it not a vinyl body wrap? Original paint will be in mint condition underneath.

Red cars go like that if you leave them in the sun for long enough without cleaning them

Yeah, I had a matt red Ford Sierra. Red is a very unpredictable colour on a car and always seems to end up patchy. Nobody knows why.

Bikes are exempt, bikes look good when stealthed up with matt paint, have a look at Smokeys bike.........stunning

I've seen an M3 wrapped in matte grey and it looked awesome, understated and classy.

I wasn't keen on the Bently some footballer had wrapped in camouflage colours though, less is more n all that.

Matt finish on cars? Who knows why. Why do people keep American Pit Bulls and other aggressive dogs as pets? Some of the great imponderable questions of our society.

Because its cheap involves naff all skills and barely any prep work plus it covers rust dents or any bad fixes in bodywork a whole car can be done for around £15 and if it gets keyed or scratched you just spray over it

It was originally for drift cars as they get so dented battered and covered in stone chips

Not any more, that dates back to solid colours, we now use base coat and laquer.
