Was cycling with Topcat1 of this parish at the weekend. He has them on his Mercian with Chris King hubs... and he was raving about them. He did actually say to me when I mentioned that I was looking for new wheels to go with Open Pro's with Dura Ace hubs.

They do seem like a good set of wheels - not the lightest at 1700g but i'm guessing they will run as smooth as butter on the dura ace hubs

and alot better than my standard giant wheels

They make great wheels and so do CXP33's

Got the CXP33'S on Dura Ace 7400 hubs and they are great. Dont forget some of the wheel weight is in the hub. Weight at the rim is where it matters. Some wheel weights can be misleading if the hubs are super light.

Fixed wheel fanatic.
I've got open pros on Ultegra hubs and the are light, speed up nicely and have taken a pretty good beating on the roads and hills over the last couple of years. Only had to be trued once after a big crash but that's down to the great job the original builder did.

for about £42 a rim they are not too bad, however, like many rims at this price and cheaper, the join is often a bit dodgy. They are arc-welded so no issues with strength, more alignment is the problem. There are good ones and bad ones. A good eye can detect most problems before even building them up, but sometimes the quality of the rim shows itself during the final truing stages, and if it's not so good, it can (and does) lead to very uneven spoke tension around the join area leading to a wheel that needs regular attention. Some open pro rims are very well made and build into very nice wheels. If you buy online then it's pot luck what you'll get.

I've built a good few wheels with Open Pro rims, mostly bought online and never had a serious issue with roundness at the joins. Folks get hung up on 10ths of a mm for no good reason IMO.
However - they do seem to wear out quickly on the brake track.

My current best pair of wheels have Ambrosio Excellence rims which are similar spec (ie double eyeleted) but a little beefier. Excellight are lighter but only single eyeleted IIRC. DT Swiss RR465 are lovely if you can afford them.

I'm hoping to try Velocity A23s next time around.

The A23 is a sweet rim. Mine's laced up in a 32H and has been bombproof and super plush in combo with latex tube it's first thousand or so miles

If you decide to get a set, check out Rose, they where the cheapest I could find for this (and any other) combination i could find. Had 2 wheelsets built up by them now, both times excellent service and quality.

I've got Open Pro on Tiagra and they're great wheels. Light, fast and bombproof.
I've regularly toured on them, taken offroad and generally abused them, and they're still round.
Open Pro on Dura-Ace would be superb. Provided you've got a good wheelbuilder...
