Did you mean the Road 93? The carbon one or the Lite aluminium one?
the Lite one is on my shortlist- it's more endurance based than the scultura range, comes with loads of tiagra for well under £900 and if I remember rightly Merida is 41% owned by Specialized so the frame should be pretty good.

What's the groupset etc? How old is it? What's the history, servicing, upgrades etc

Like all secondhand bikes of a certain age - it's worth the difference between what the seller wants for it and what the buyer is prepared to pay..
No, actually, I think it is just worth what the buyer is prepared to pay, it does not make any difference what the seller wants. It is more a point of what a certain bike of a certain age sells for on any given site, then the buyer can ascertain what the bike might be worth on the open market. Whether he/she chooses to pay that is up to them.

True - but some sellers are stubborn... ;)

Need to know a bit more to judge value! Doesn't the seller know the spec? If it was £899 10 years ago, it'll be worth rather less than if it was £899 last year!

You do NOT remember rightly, its the other way round.
In 2001 Merida purchased 49% of the shares in Specialized and its CEO and founder Mike Sinyard still is its shareholder.
Specialized bike are made in Guangdong province by the Giant Bicycle Corporation, the world’s largest cycle manufacturer.
