It was an expensive Duffle coat actually - and it was a cold day.

Still - why not stick to the Tory press inspired lies.

It was a grave error of judgement. A bit silly but all in all I agree with the previous comments that Foot was an honourable (if misguided) politician.

Talking of image and Dennis Skinner I can recall Private Eye reporting, at the time of the Stephen Milligan death, that Dennis was being teased about his woolly hat by the Tories and he replied 'At least I'm not wearing a bag over me head'!

An honourable and humane gentleman, with a wicked sense of humour and a razor sharp mind. A conviction politician from a Liberal family he wore his education and intellect lightly, and his heart on his sleeve. Shame he became leader so late in life and in a time where style had begun to matter more than substance such that what you wear matters more than what you say and do.
