Hi All,

Change of circs at work mean I now have to transport my towel on the daily commute - This takes up valuable weight and space in the already too heavy rucksack. Was thinking about getting a couple of the micro towels but have no experience of them at all.

I guess they are aimed at occassional usage i.e. camping etc rather than daily use.

Anyone have any thoughts on such towels?

I use one daily. It's about the size of 2 tea towels joined together. It's soaked after one use but dries by next morning in my locker. I have to take it home every 2 days to wash. On days that i forget it i use paper towels from the dispensers, they do fine.

I use a micro towel too, it does the job adequately but is not fantastic. I dry it by hanging it up under my desk with a couple of rubber tea towel holders that I stuck under there.

I take it home every friday to wash it,

There's two types - one's very much like a normal towel with loops of thread, but thinner/synthetic - I've got a few sizes small, midsize (mebbe 2ftx4ft), and another that's quite a bit bigger, work very well indeed, I keep the midsized at work so it gets used most work days.

The other sort is almost more like a felt material. Doesn't work very well at all IME. Tho' I ought to qualify that - it *may* be that I needed to wash it several times to get any kind of absorbancy. Think it was a bit smaller than the others anyway, so it's probably sitting in a drawer..

Handy thing is you can wash 'em in the sink at work and they'll be dry by the following day, in case you forget to bring a fresh one in...

I use a couple of Liveventure microfibre towels for the gym, a large one for after showering and a small one to mop up the sweat that pours out of me. Both are a kind of 'chamois' like texture and they do the job brilliantly - took a little bit of getting used to but now I wouldn't use anything else - they pack small, wash easily and dry quickly so I use them on holidays too. Mountain Warehouse seems to have them reduced to half price every now and then.

I have a Lifeventure Trek Towel too. It is handy to always have, and does the job, but, as you say, it isn't like a normal towel.

It folds up into a zip up pouch which is only about 15cm by 10cm and weighs practically nothing, so it is VERY handy to have at the bottom of one's bag.

You know what they said about towels in The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, don't you?

My son has one of those in his games kit, he uses it three days a week, seems to be very good so far.
