Sounds fair. I don't know the area, but it makes sense to make cyclists dismount in pedestrianised shopping zones. Whether it is a tightly packed area or a sparse area with aimlessly wandering pedestrians or kids, a ridden bike still poses a danger.
Norwich's London Street also has a no-cycling policy which I've seen being enforced by PCSOs.

Lights have also been covered on this board.

+ another.

I've just walked into town - about a 5 minute walk - and passed 5 cyclists riding on the pavement (and none on the road). That included 3 who were attempting to weave in and out of a group of pedestrians at a spot where there's a metal barrier one side, a row of bollards with spiked chain between them on the other, and only just room for two people to walk side by side.

No problem with me either.

When the law is there plain to see then you can't really complain. Sure, take a decision to break a law but know the consequences if you're caught.

I agree. But I’m sure one of the problems, I find, is with local councils who insist on placing some cycle paths on shared pavements. I then think it sends a message, to some, that you can cycle on all pavements.

Yup - fine by me. Pavement cycling is a no-no.

John59 does have a point, though, as councils actively encourage pavement cycling by the magical addition of white-paint outline bikes on what was a pavement one day suddenly becoming a shared-use farcility the next... One of the reasons I *loathe* farcilities

They're only PCSOs...surely the person could just cycle away and never get caught?

I don't really care as I don't cycle on the pavement though

Agreed, it sends out a mixed message.
But in shopping centres etc, I agree it's a clear no-no and I agree with the Police.
