Mind the elk!

A passenger in a car was filming an elk crossing the motorway in Sweden and to their horror it was struck by an oncoming car.

The motorist was treated in hospital, but unfortunately the elk died.

Elks are like cows on stilts and are HEAVY, but this one flew through the air like a stuffed toy.

How did the driver not see the elk? They're huge, and it was in the middle of the road, if he'd slow down, there'd have been no incident.

I know that some wildlife is harder to avoid, a friend of mine was effectively rammed (in her car) in Richmond Park by a deer, and it's not uncommon for a kangaroo to appear suddenly from the side of the road and bounce on your bonnet, but this seems avoidable

Sadly a common occurance in Scandanavia, according to my ex girlfriend Sari, her sister Taria (Finnish) and Marina their Swedish cousin. Just rare to see it filmed,and those barriers are actually anti-Elk fences.
I was told this after mentioning that I had worked on Saab cars for years and how safe they were and they were fitted with internal roll cages as standard, they have to be

The car didn't seem to stop although I doubt if the driver could see where they were going after hitting the Elk. Poor Elk.
