Sat at some traffic lights for waaayyyy to long this morning, pondering.

Why did all the motorists coming through the junction all look so miserable? Think I counted one singing, one on a hands free, the rest were so damn miserable. Big cars, small cars, posh cars and bangers - all the same

Lovely morning out there, bit of a headwind, little fresh, but oh so nice. Smile folks. Traffic was a bit heavy, but it's nice to have a little breather.

Could be because they see you there using their roads and not paying any road tax like they do.
And don't forget the war on motorists- the whole world's against the poor darlings, speed limits, traffic lights, peds daring to use pelican crossings in front of them, speed cameras, £6 a gallon etc etc.....

I saw some of that programme, woman moaning about spending 50quid on a weeks public transport but fine about 6k p.a. onher car before it even got off the drive.

Thats nearly as much as my house! No wonder they are so glum!

Yeah, but that's a worthy cost. Gotta have a flash motor on the drive to impress the neighbours and to show that you've made it in life.

I've been one of those miserable motorists this week, back on bike yesterday and it felt great.

Talking of which, it's time to go again :hello:

Yes, ride a bike they may think you are poor !

Unless you are white and middle class, then you get to be sporty or eccentric, depending on attire.

On my latest route to work, I have to cross 4 major-ish A roads* (actually 2 roads that I cross twice each, but whatever), one of which I cross at the top of a steepish hill. As I emerged from the bridleway there last week, there was a tractor coming so I stopped and resigned myself to the long wait for the big queue of cages behind it. As they were all only doing about 20mph or so I had a great chance to see each driver and I swear that 30+ out of the 50 or so in the queue looked as if they were only minutes away from exploding in a fit of pique. Smug little me, on the other hand, was out in the fresh air and had just had a lovely saunter through some woods with only the birds and bunnies for company.

* the route itself is lovely: lots of lanes, bridleways in woods, bunnies, skwerls, bluebells and even a deer yesterday! Interspersed with 4 chances to laugh at the nose-to-tail 35mph procession of cagers.

The one I think annoys most drivers is having to drive on the left and avoid obstacles like pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers. We should tear up the Highway Code and just let them get on with it for a month. The survivors will be the best of them all. Then we go back to having rules.

I can sympathise with the commuting motorist because I used to be one. I was miserable too. Then I started taking the bus, which was an even more miserable experience (I think this is why people cling to their cars - they think PT is the only alternative). Now I cycle, which is enjoyable and sees me arrive at work with a smile on my face.

I would love to use my bike to go everywhere, sadly it's not always possible.
The days I ride to work I arrive sweaty, but invigorated, raring to go & full of beans.
The day I use the car, i find myself stuck in traffic jams thinking about how if i was on my bike i'd be halfway there by now, then i start to think about 'things' the gas bill due next week, the cats need to go to the vets, what to cook for dinner, did I switch the alarm on, did I turn the tap off, My son says i frown when I think - which is why I try to avoid it

I did my first ever commute to work today and it really opened my eyes to the area I am in. Every day I used to drive to work stairing blankly at the car infront reading the number plate over and over listening to what ever crap is on the radio these days. BUT this morning I decided **** it and got on the bike. Half way to work I saw 2 male sheep dueling with each other and then realised that horses sleep really funny by standing and resting their face on the floor... strange and I also saw a little jack hopping along a field away from me that I must of scared. Never seen these before (on this route) and I have driven it for the past 3 years...
