If you've noticed a few people's avatars are not loading and pages are taking a little while to download fully, it's due to an issue at Gravatar.com
Gravatar is a service where you can upload your avatar and then reuse it all over the web. Their servers aren't responding (at the time of writing) but I assume it's a temporary blip and they'll be back on again shortly.
