Missing commuting

It'll be 3 weeks this Tuesday since I lost my old job and stopped commuting by bike. I've only had to do the odd ride to town and not really felt up to doing any weekend rides. Probably done under 30 miles in that time and really out of it. I hope that some kind of job comes up soon so I can get back to the daily pedal pushing again :bicycle:

No luck so far...

Good luck with the job hunting.

Why not factor in a ride every morning whilst job hunting, it'll keep you fit, motivated and would be a great reason to get up in the morning

just a thought:smile:

Hope you get sorted soon, nothing like a regular commute to help with motivation.
I find that even on days off I will not go out on the bike regularly, even if the chance is there, but I will nearly always ride in to work instead of driving.

In the early 90s i was unemployed for 6 months and after i had been to the job centre , scanned papers, wrote letters and phone calls i would always try to fit in at least 4 runs a week .

Good luck on the job hunting front. Certainly try to slot an early morning or 'just after rush hour run' even if it's just a quick 10 miles. I was doing this whilst off sick (five weeks) after my shoulder operation.

Good luck with the job hunting. I can't commute to work so especially in the winter, I try and come up with as many errands as possible to get me out.

Thanks for all the well-wishing everyone, the job situation is dire ATM for us young people but I will sign up with a couple of agencies over the coming days, this is probably my best bet of getting back into work.

Regarding the riding, I went out for a 13 mile ride around the back lanes and felt like collapsing! Obviously either I am seriously unfit or my asthma medication really isn't working. Chest pain and breathlessness galore:sad:

Good job on getting out

Try taking it a bit easier, but if you still feel breathless or wheezy, it would do no harm to see the asthma nurse, or your GP at your local practice.

Holdsworth, This time last year I was in the same boat. I went for a daily walk between 5-10 miles, quite often taking my camera. It was bloody tough some days but filled up the day and gave me some sort of purpose. Try and get out and get fitter. Keep your head up and a smile on your face. Good luck with the job hunting.

Dave.
