Hi all

does anyone know how to reset the activation password on a modem - it's somehow not accepting the password which should be the one to allow the computers in the house to be networked wirelessly.

So can it be wiped clean and then re-networked up via each computer?

Thanks!

If you mean an ADSL Router, there is usually a reset switch that can be pressed with a pen at the back, near the power port.

However, make sure you have all your ISP details as sometimes you may need to re-enter some information in order to access the internet again.

I see what you mean- thanks, apart from the IP address are there any other bits of info I need to write down?

Do you mean the wireless key doesn't seem to be working, or the password to log on to the router doesn't seem to be working ?
if the former, you should be able to get access to the router via an Ethernet connection and check configuration from there.
If the latter, then yes a router reset needs to be done.

I cant remember what bits are required (if any) I dont use ADSL. Some ISP's require a username/password etc, some dont.

I've tried the ethernet connection but no joy as the password for the router is not working.

Will try and sort this later on today.

Thanks all!

I've tried that one Lee but the password is not allowing access on that page- somehow the Dell engineer who my housemate phoned has done something odd (I'm not sure how as she doesn't know the password)

The network key she wrote down didn't sound computer generated - just pissed off with all the extra work required to now re-set this modem and reconfigure it on each computer - of course housemate doesn't have to do anything..still she didn't mean for this to happen of course.

Safer to just reset it I suppose, rename and get a new password I'm hoping

Is that all I need to know for the reset? That looks about right swee'pea99.

I set it up a while ago

I've gone onto that page- the password which it should be under is not taking me to the settings page- which for me warrants a re-set. It's unlikely that the tech has changed it or my housemate so that's why this is very odd

Will contact the Dell tech tonight to see what weird and wonderful things have been done and if it still doesn't make sense -I'll reset - hopefully that should sort out the problem.
