Modifications?

I am not getting the bug for cycling, but my funds are low as I bought a Merida 93 Carbon.

I know wheels are the biggest thing to change, but at present i don't have the funds, and I think I would like to change them next spring to keep the bike fresh and interesting and a different riding experience for 2015

I am changing the tyres to Schwalbe Ultremo tyres, light at 195g compared to my Maxxis Detonators which are 300g.

What other small things can I change. I like carbon. The bike has a carbon seat post, but it doesn't really show any weave off!

Suggestions?

Keep saving your money for the best wheels you can afford, all the other bits are minor in comparison.

If you've got a bit of a gut think about shaving a bit of weight off that as well, cheaper than carbon.

My main reason is to loose weight! I am doing around 20miles rides 3-4days per week with some good hills to, which I hate! Averaging 13.5mph.

Maybe your right about saving, I just like fancy bits that look nice though

Good job on the tires. They are rather fast.

I've gone second hand route for wheels again. Got a xxx lite bontrager carbon tubular rear for £150. Bargain! And I'm so excited to get it through the door! Plus my Chinese carbon front arriving tomorrow.

Could get xxx lite bontrager carbon stem pretty cheap on eBay. Looks swish!



Nothing else is going to give you immediate response single handedly IMO. Its the rider. So ride ride ride!!! Don't stop. Your body will adapt. Its an amazing thing.

Putting too much carbon on a bike is a bit like someone who's had too many tatoos.

Yes to much carbon is to much, nice components dotted around to just draw your attention is nice.

For me carbon wheels and a nice seat post and stem would be all.
