Up at roughly BST time as a poke in the eye to the GMT doomsterists. Sun's up at the expected time, not amazingly.

Probably ride to cake, lunchtime pasty before a talk by a local historian about the rebuilding of the Royal Clarence Hotel (which is taking place at long last, after the catastrophic fire nine long years ago), then site meeting with local councillor about my brainwave about a mini-roundabout improvement to prioritise pedestrians and cyclists.

Bright start. Helluva windy last night but it has abated.
Needs to abate some more for me 2 pedal in it innit.
Girls back to school - phew! We survived boredom rants and frustration.

That's sad that the reason for the rebuild is now in scope for historians rather than journalists.

I've gone over that mini roundabout at least twice a day for 33 years (so more than 24k times), and it's always been a mess, with no scope for separating the various modes crossing it from five different directions, but as usual the most dangerous mode assuming priority. That needs to be turned on its head by reimagining it as essentially an area where cars & lorries intrude onto a pedestrian area with no road markings - like the Dutch 'chaotic junctions', where you have to drive like you're in a playground with children running about randomly.

The historians got involved right from the start, as the fire exposed lots of hidden medieval material, and prompted a fascinating book, which I've got. It's Todd Gray doing the talk.
