Hrmm, I'm off there next week with work and have the whole afternoon clear till the last Eurostar. You're putting bad thoughts in my head.

Those 'Villo!' boris bikes look okay for it too - 7 gears. Anyone used them? - from the website it seems you just need find one of the stations which accept credit card and use it to buy a day ticket. Like Boris bikes the price ramps up the longer you have them out, but not nearly as severely.

I remember it from my younger days well:

But as I get older, I feel the need to join the Holy Orders:

In the end I was enjoying nosing around Brussels too much on foot to be bothered with it. The logistics would have been a bit arkward on a Villo! as well, but I did have a mess about on them. They ride well and cope with hills a good deal better than boris bikes with 7 gears, however the brakes on all 4 I rented were absolutely appalling, bordering on dangerous. If anyone ends up using one, I'd brake test it first thing so you're aware what you're dealing with.

Before renting a Villo while it is in the dock I pick up the rear end and give the pedals a spin, do they or the rear wheel catch on any of the plastic chain/mud/skirt guards? Is the seat post clamp so tight you can not open it to adjust, or so loose it does not clamp? Tyres okay? Gives the brakes a squeeze, all good, well goodish the brakes are the weak point.

Sounds like a faff but only takes a few seconds and is quicker than returning the bike to the doc and renting a new one:okay:

Somewhere... I have a photo of me and with my bike propped up against that stone gate. Whenever I drink a Pilsner Urquell I always look at the bottle neck label and can't help smiling.

If you went to the Czech Republic you could make it a pilsgrimage.
