Just indulge me a moment while I breathe a long sigh of relief!

My son (18) decided not to you go to Uni in September, instead he did an "advanced apprenticeship" in IT Support. It was 6 months in a learning environment rather than a workplace and he got multiple IT qualifications, most are Microsoft accredited. He finished in February. The training provider (Zenos) claims to have a 90% success rate in that its students go on to work or further education. I thought that this was a rather bold statement in the current climate, especially for his age-group.

Anyway, he has been refusing to sign-on (he has savings from the apprenticeship) and has been determind that he will be successful in getting a job. He has applied for many, many jobs. He applied for 50+ in one week. I was concerned that his optimism was mis-placed. However, Zenos sent him and a handful of the other apprentices along to an interview last week - they called yesterday to say he got the job!!

I am so relieved. Of course the wage is pretty poor but at least he now has a foot on the employment ladder. I am also thrilled that he has got his first ever job from his first ever proper interview - what a kid! He was on cloud 9 last night, until I informed him that he would be financing his own guitar lessons and I also want board money from him!!!

Well done BP Junior. Never believe the nay sayers, a bit of determination and the right attitude goes a long way and most interviewers recognise this. The first step is always the hardest, moving on is easier. I hope you didn't puncture his bubble too soon BP

Well done to the kid. The job market is fierce at the moment (and I should know). Companies are exploitative (because they can afford to be) so I hope they don't try and bully him about.

Good luck to him.
