I owned a number of MZs, all 250s. Great bikes. It was a minor tragedy when they stopped making them. I agree that cubic capacity has no relationship to riding pleasure. Reviewers know nothing, the Honda CX 500 was universally condemned but after the C90 was probably the most reliable transport on the planet.
I had a CB 500 twin. Not the biggest bike I owned, but by far the most fun it ticked like a Swiss watch, handled brilliantly and gave all the performance any sane person could handle. To see them dismissed as "Starter bikes" by the press was laughable, how many cars can you get with a top speed of 125mph for less than three grand?

... I do know that they got bigger and bigger though, if I'd had the money I suppose I'd have ended up with a Boss Hog eventually, instead of stopping at 1500cc. The enjoyment diminished as the engine dispalcement grew.
Bikes, cars, cameras and boats, the fun is inversely proportional to the size. Fact.
There was a race series for the MZs.... it was great to watch!
A friend got into that when he was 59. It was the first time he'd tried racing anything and he was, as expected, crap but who cares, he had the time of his life.

A 500 used to be a big bike. Now a 650 is a middleweight. As cars got faster bikes competed, resulting in the overweight behemoths or adolescent fantasies that make up motorcycling today. In the last 20 years commuting by motorbike has all but died out in most places.

My old last ZX6R was the most fun bike I've ever had - good enough to hang onto for 8 years. Touring, commuting, track day riding, carrying pillions. It was competent at them all - now gone to the great breakers in the sky after a very clever bloke did a very silly thing, and did a U turn in the road as me and my mate were riding towards him (we swapped bikes)
