i know there have been numerous posts about bad backs (ive posted a few myself) anyway results from the MRI show i have 2 x prolapsed disks at the bottom of my spine,i am being booked in for an epidural to see if that helps, has anyone on here had an epidural for back pain??did it help etc etc

I had one in January, didn't do any thing for me, you can have up to three a year, but I was refused a second one seeing that the first one didn't work, but my GP is asking the question why I can't have another one.
The injection is straight forwards with hardly any pain well it was for me.
They have put me on Gabapentin capsules, they have stopped a little bit of the pain, but not all of it and if I turn quickly from the waist the pain comes back, but saying that I can now walk 2.5 miles without too much pain so a big improvement.
I'm only in the early stages of taking the Gabapentin capsules at this time I'm on 300mg three times a day, but I have to increase to 600 mg 3 times a day, but there are side affects and one is high blood pressure which is not good which now my GP is looking into.

Not in my spine, but had injections in back - will also say yor are limited on number you can have.

Sorry you are on gaba Numbnuts, it's horrible stuff. I was put on it for my shoulder after Amitriptyline sent me a bit weird. This stuff felt like a chemical lobotomy - like I'd been slapped very hard on the front of my head. I soon binned them. A newer alternative is Pregablin, but it's more expensive - again, it didn't get on with me - they are anti-convulsant drugs, and the side effects are that they block nerve pain. I ditched it.
