Going up park lane at 23mph, just about to overtake someone else, and CRACK!! sounds like i went over some sharp metal spike and it ripped into my frame. My speed didn't change and quick look at handle bars and lights and nothing is missing..

It's not until i slow down and get off that i see my rear Crud road racer mud guard has snapped full off in half, and the bit attached to the brake is compleatly gone and lying in the middle of park lane.

Brilliant. it's going to pee it down later on, now i will get a wet arse

Bummer, but thanks. You've just reminded me I need a new tail for my front guard! You can get a new one from here.
I snapped the tail of my front guard before, and i've used their replacement service, despite the mud guard failing on me (no idea why) i will deffinatly be replacing it.

I'm sure they'd say 'user error' or similar if you tried to claim it wasn't your fault. Have you seen they now have vibration dampers? Looks like a sticky bit of something you put near the brake.

I had a mudguard snap, lodge itself between the wheel and the frame and throw me off into the rush hour traffic. Naturally no one stopped but at least no one actually shouted/beeped at or ran over me.

I could be wrong gaz but I think that's one of their selling points! they can fall apart but they won't affect your wheel.
That's right! I accidentally tested mine by putting my bag down behind the front mudguard then getting hold of it and standing up quickly. One of the shoulder straps caught the rear extension piece - SNAP! I was annoyed, but it is better to have a guard that does that than one which bends and gets jammed in your forks if you ride over a twig or a Coke can.
