Not going anywhere tonight, so have simmered up a bottle of red, added spices, lemon and orange, and now have a steaming mug of velvety wetness.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Anyone fancy a drop?

No thanks it's the devil's urine.
Winemakers spend years learning their craft, then spend more years growing the vines to produce the wine. You then heat it up and add spices totally changing the taste.
ENJOY
I'll stick with the real stuff thanks

Needs a brandy in it like the Germans do, lovely.

Turns it from a bottle of liquid that makes you wince when you drink it, to a pan of hot nactar that glides down the throat like marbles on a slide.

Sluuuuurp.

Going out now to take pics of the (heavy) snow.

What a way to ruin a perfectly good bottle of red wine !
Mistake number one would be starting out with a perfectly good bottle of red wine.

I would say it depends on the basic ingredients ...

A semi-decent wine, fresh orange, a bit of cinnamon rind and a few cloves, gently heated as to not destroy the flavours and keep some of the alcohol in can be rather nice occasionally.

The ready-made stuff or plonk used for commercial mulled wine sold at many Christmas markets is mostly disgusting and full of added sugar, to make up for the vinegar that went into it. xx(

Getting all homesick for the Alps ...

I was also partaking of mulled wine last night.... I love it and always serve it for my friends when we gather for my birthday celebrations. And there is plenty left over so I'll be having more tonight and the night after ....;)

I'm not usually a fan of the stuff but I had a few last night and after about the first four it started to taste a bit better. All I had to do was stand still and the hosts kept filling up my glass. Oh , and I had to keep talking to people , that was the hard part.
