Impressive multi tasking from a bloke in a silver BMW today. He managed to berate us for being on the road when there was cycle path available, whilst simultaneously texting.
I'm sure there's some irony there somewhere...........
It looked like we might catch him at the next set of lights but they changed and he was away just as we came up to them.

I can forgive alot of driving sins, by putting them down to a simple lack of awareness of the driver. i.e. They don't ride bikes so they don't think to look for them. However, mobile phone use, and specifically texting while at the wheel is absolutely unforgivable - no text message can be that important. And always seems to be the way that there's never a police car about when you see someone doing it...

Interesting article. It's inevitable though that before long they'll become commonplace. It's also inevitable that at some point they'll be banned for use while driving, but people will still do it because it'll be virtually impossible to enforce. Pedestrians will walk out in front of lorries because they weren't looking, and drivers will go into the back of each other. Kind of like they do now when they're busy playing with phones, only more often.

The writer makes a good point about such devices impeding upon our relationships too. I was in a restaurant the week before last. Family of five sitting at the table. Two were playing with phones, two with Nintendo DS's, and the fifth was looking out of the window because I presume he was bored.

Still, that's progress - apparently...

Was in a large shopping centre last week - although this can be seen anywhere - and I saw several examples of young women pushing prams showing no interest in the be-prammed child as they had important tasks to complete via thumbs and forefingers on mobile devices. The only bucking of this trend was carried out by grandmothers only too happy to have more time with their grandchild while mother was out of the picture.
