Anybody owned one?

And if so, any advice on what to look for when buying, common faults etc?

I'm selling my motorbike. After 20 years of firing myself through the countryside on sunny weekend mornings I think I've pushed my luck far enough and have lost all interest in riding.

I'd still like a toy for those crisp summer mornings or a bit of a bimble on a summer evening and after looking around I'd like to own a MX5 for a while.

Thought there may be someone here with some ownership experience. Thanks in advance for any help.

I once got a lift to a meeting in a senior officers MX5, only to discover I didn't fit unless the roof and passenger window were down!

I've a mate who's into them. They nice toys, fun out of all proportion with the price. Mechanically they're fairly robust, its the tinworm that's your major worry. Climb all over, under and within any prospective purchase to check for cancer.

I work on them a few times a week, look out for rust. Apart from that there are very few problems, I have also brought and sold a good few over the years, not one has thrown up any problems.

Thanks all for your replies, I've got my eye on one reasonably local but want to sell the bike first to make room for it in the garage. Think I'm going to go and check for rot at the weekend and have a little test ride to make sure I really like it before I start getting too over excited

Totally over rated. Limp and unexciting. No spare wheel. Cramped.

It wont be cramped with me in it, I'm a short arse.

I will be test driving obviously and it will be interesting to see if I agree with your other comments because there appear to be a lot of people who disagree ( not just on here). Time will tell.

I had an MR2 way back when. Great car and wish I had kept it. If I was looking for a runabout 2 seater I'd think about another one.

This is a midlife crisis on wheels lol

Mr m's golf partner got an RX8 a few years back.
He became officially known as "midlife"
Mr m had a Mazda 6 and rated that.
Never mind what anyone else thinks.
If the car brings a smile to your face then it's "the one".
