Do I need to get the spray plaster out?
Oooh pretty! (At 10,00 frames per second) I would give a more sensible response I am sure if I could hear it!

Currently sourcing some soda glass and homing in on gaining access to a workshop smelting furnace......

It's just a matter of getting me, the glass and furnace to share the same grid reference simultaneously.

And there was me thinking it was some sort of willy piercing.

I'm sure they showed this on that Dara O'Brien science club thingy, although I don't think that called it Prince Rupert's drop (maybe because it sounds like a willy piercing).

By references to Prince Rupert's Drops on Radio Four just now and this is what I discovered:
.

I heard that programme as well. Interesting stuff!
I still have all my old glassblowing tools in the shed from when I did it for a living. Sadly no furnace or burner.
Unfortunately I didn't know about Prince Albert then

Fantastic! I had heard of them, having seen them on QI once, but the explanation is interesting, and the high-speed footage is just mind-boggling. I'd love to see that in a sound-surround cinema, on a massive screen, accompanied by the finale of the 1812!

Been there done that. It works.

There is also an alternative method.

Fill a bottle with a mineral oil to the level of the cut.
Dip a red hot poker or a read hot chunk of metal into the oil.
A crack will propagate at the oil level.
