I suppose I shouldn't be making a big deal out of it, but I was well chuffed. I'd shown my youngest (15) how to do it once or twice, but this time I said you do it, and if you need me, give me a shout. 15 minutes later, ta-da! - perfect job, finished. Puncture fixed, new tyre fitted, wheel back in place.

Well done, it takes me longer than that myself!

Excellent:thumbsup: I am working on getting my 9 yr old lad to do the same, so far the sticking a patch on bit is ok, but he can't manage getting the tyre off or on the rim.

I remeber fondly the Cub Scout cyclist badge where one of the requirements was to change and fit a spoke!

We used to teach them to limp home and take it to a bike shop!

It is somethingthat many experienced cyclists would not tackle

Going to do the cyclist badge with my cub pack soon. I've got a couple of old mtb wheels and tyres for them to do the repair a puncture bit. The rest is about maintenance, safe riding and of course, going for a ride.

Well done, that girl! :bravo:

I was trying to remember if I fixed my own punctures when I was a boy. It was about half a century ago () so such details are lost in the mists of time!

My dad used to work very long hours and weekends so he was not around a lot of the time to do it for me, and we did not have a car at the time so there was no way for him to come and collect me anyway if I had a problem miles from home. We were self-sufficient as kids then so I think I must have done my own repairs.

Get him a VAR tyre lever. They are excellent devices where te tyre is hard to get off and/or weak fingers.

Barnet,
It almost like a right of passage, the kids fixing their own puncture. Yet another small step to becoming a real cyclist.:bicycle:

I was taught how to change a tyre when I was about seven. We weren't given tyre levers just a couple of old spoons or forks.
Ha, exactly the same as me, 71, forgot all about that
...on a raleigh budgie in my case, shown once, never forgot, no YouTube to watch repeatedly in our day
