My first ride

So, I finally did it.

A 6 mile route, after the first mile, my legs burned, and I thought what the hell have I got in to. There was a turn off that heads straight back home that was looking very tempting, but I rode past it eventually, and completed my route.

Reflecting on the ride, Cars were more considerate than I was expecting, and I actually really enjoyed being out on the bike.

That is my route, quite happy with the average speed of 12mph, but a bit surprised and disappointed with my fitness that I had to stop for water twice in just 6 miles. But all fun, bike is cleaned down after the wet ride, and I am eager to get out again, just not today though

Well done. The first couple of rides will always feel hard work but it will get easier once you get into it.

You mention burning legs - have you got your saddle high enough? The easy way to get a basic set up is to have it so that with your heel on the pedal, your leg is straight at the lowest point of the stroke. The leg should then have approximately the right amount of bend when the ball of the foot is on the pedal and you can fine tune it for personal preference from there.

I'd expect the burn first time out @Rickshaw Phil , His average was fairly respectable over the time and distance for a first ride. He did the bike setup yesterday on another thread ;)
