One of my sisters and my brother in law struggled to have kids for years. They eventually went down the adoption route and adopted a wee boy of three, 7 years ago. Incidently the day they signed the papers to adopt him fully she found out she was pregnant and has since had 2 girls of her own.
Anyway, my nephew up until the age of three was brought up in a terrible way. He had no teeth as he was only given irn bru to drink, talked like a baby still and he was 3, as his mother has learning difficulties and has 5 kids by 5 different guys! My nephew was with foster parents because of this and his natural Dad is actually in jail for murdering someone!
My sister and BIL have been phenomenal with him and he is now a well behaved, pleasant, well mannered boy of 11. He is though, due to his start in life though very slow for his age and has a lower than average IQ. My neice who is 7 is far smarter and runs rings round him. That coupled the fact he has a form of Aspegers. Which brings me on to my point, finally.
They got him Christened and stuff years ago and I am his Godfather so at his birthdays and Christmas I always spoil him a bit. I always get him toys as kids love that and then clothes as my sister finds this helpful. (having 3 kids is not cheap) This year though he has grown so fast and at 11 years old has size 10 feet so I had no idea what size to buy him. So I gave his presents and a card with money in it. It was one note and I said to him. Right that's to get clothes for you. You can have half to get what you want and your Mum can get half (thinking she could use that for practial things like underwear, shoes etc....0
As he takes most things you say literally due to the aspergers he then calm as you like ripped the £100 note in half and gave his mum half and put half in his pocket
Was just thinking about that there and made me laugh
