Its now reached its final configuration I think!
Much better as a single speed in my opinion. Stronglight TD2 single chainset with sealed BB - 34T. New SA X-RD with single freewheel and 19t sprocket giving a gear of around 50". The tallest I can manage in this hilly area. Transmission is 3/32".
The wonderfully shaped Nitto moustache bars can be flipped from cruiser to racer style in just a couple of minutes. The former is easier on my neck and shoulders though! I find the vintage GP short reach quill stem particularly pleasing.
As I have now given up driving, a bike is an important component regarding my independence. My vintage Triumph is way too heavy for practical use in this area so is in storage at a friends house. The Guvnor is my only other bike at the moment so is used every day. Mainly for local trips around Newquay but its up to journeys like a 30 mile round trip to Truro if I am. I am looking for a geared tourer though to make longer trips a little more practical especially in the winter.
This really is a lovely bike to ride! The key thing for me was getting the saddle height right - something Ive never struggled with before and I am left wondering how many other bikes I have set the saddle too high on over the years! Certainly the formula I have always used since being taught it as a boy - heal on pedal strait leg, ball of foot on pedal slightly bent leg - doesnt quite fit my physiology. Having the saddle an inch lower then this felt weird at first but now is so comfy.
