I was putting in a new fence panel today when my neighbour over the road suddenly started screaming.

I rushed over to find she'd run over her cat  poor thing had been asleep underneath the car and being very old and deaf, not heard her get in the car. It was a horrible mess.

I took my neighbour inside, calmed her down, called her husband and put the poor kitty in a bag so she didn't have to see it. Cleaned up the drive for her as well so her other cats didn't get distressed.

She's recovering now thankfully, poor thing.

I feel a bit shocked now for some reason. I went into 'rescue mode' and didn't realise at the time that it had effected me. When I checked the poor cat when I got there her nerves were still firing, can't get the images out of my head.

Not something you want on your birthday. I went out for 20 to clear my head tho.

Sorry to hear that.

Experienced something similar a couple of weeks ago.
Myself and Mista Preston of this parish was on our way through Kent when we came a cross a dead cat in the road. A large old tabby.
I stopped to move the poor thing out of the road and onto the nearest house verge/garden. To my horror the cat was still very warm. We think it was hit by a BMW that had sped past us a minute or so earlier.

Unfortunately it didn't have a name tag on it's collar.

I did it to my wives cat last year,it was 20 years old and was asleep on the drive and I drove right over it,killed it out right thankfully!!it had a good innings and never suffered, the thing was i thought my wife was pleased to see me ,but she was waving to warn me about the cat being on the drive,so it was a collection of mixed messages:hello:

My big brother once ran over a Seagull and just left it where it was killed..... On the street near our house and in full view of all and sundry. The callous bastard!

That's terrible - but it's only a cat.

It might be only a cat but it's surprising how they can worm their way into your affections.

Several years ago I was devastated by the sighting of the corpse a cat, Felix, that had assumed ownership of me. When alive it coerced me into feeding it prime cuts of fish, meat and high quality offal and hissed and arched its back if I ever dared to attempt to stroke it. Nevertheless I was his human.

A couple of months later the cat re-appeared at the back door demanding in his characteristic meow a feed. The disbelief then rush of unbridled joy when I realised that the cat was still alive took me by surprise.

I'd either spotted a clone of Felix lying in the gutter or Felix's real name was Lazarus.

He's definitely dead now. He'd become increasingly frail and his host took him to the vets for a humane despatch.

I'll never let myself be co-owned by a cat again.

At the moment our cat is two-timing us for a cyclist/policeman who lives alone three doors up. His late mum had cats and ours nips in through the cat flap for a good sleep. We are waiting for a formal announcement from the two of them.

My cat (whose left paw is annoyingly resting on the 'Enter' key of my keyboard right now) left its owner in just 2-weeks of arriving on the scene. I remember waking up one morning to find her curled up at the bottom of my bed. And then I started sneezing ...
