Happened to one of my neighbours. Wh all hadn't been in the houses long (new build), and her two cats were milling about. Her father started his transit van, and just moved it slowly (nothing quick), then came this terrible squeeling, and the cat bounced about. The girl started shrieking as her husband scooped it up and took it inside. Unfortunately it died. Was most upsetting.

We've got three cats, and check that they aren't under the car, or indeed move them away. They also have a habbit of running infront of the car as you get home - 'it's my owner, they won't run me over' !

Must have been horrible

I don't like cats at all but wouldn't wish that on anyone. As a passionate dog lover I know the distress losing a pet causes, to happen in that way as well is pretty awful.

Yep, ours hangs around miaowing when we get home and reverse the car in. I'm waiting for the squelch and the yowl.

Just glad I have a reversing camera on my car - rear vision is terrible. Sure the cats know this though. La la la as they wander past the back of the car with tails held high.

That was one of the reasons why we stopped our cat Billa from going out. She is 17 1/2, sleeps all the time and safe indoors, best thing for her.

That is the best for an older cat. We tend to keep our cats in at night - the older two (15) prefer to be in, the youngster (5) is out. Main reason is foxes, seem to be quite a few and my SIL lost her cat to one in the garden (lives about 400m from us).

Not really an issue to a fit young cat, but as they get older they get slow (just like me before anyone says)

Must have been horrible for the poor woman, well done on helping Matt.

Our cats do the 'running alongside the car' trick too, then they dissappear into a blindspot and I have to stop the car just to make sure they are not in front of the wheels.

That's terrible - but it's only a cat.
The reply I would like to post is not suitable for a public forum. but this makes you come across as a heartless ...
You should be pitied. Must be horrible being like that.
i agree with Night Train--animals are far better and more trustworthy than the majority of people imo.
