Thats my concern. I dont want a £1000 bike that i cant use due to lack of a wheel should i hit a pot hole and damage a rim.

I have now told Mrs aud i will go "shopping" with her this afternoon and i must "nip" in to the bike shop

This might help - the Cannondale guy talks about the disk spacing from 2:30 on...

I got the synapse tiagra (2014) 3 weeks ago and the hubs are 135mm. this is my first road bike and I find the rim brakes to be fine. (300 miles in 3 weeks). I think the colour is fine too.
I looked at the synapse 105 disc but it was over the c2w budget being £1099.

I can get the 105 of c2w as my company allow £1111.11 for some reason.

There is nothing wrong with rim brakes and if cannondale did the 105 with rims for the same price i would have it. If the Tiagra version was black and white then i would have that as well. To be fair the blue is not as bad in the flesh but i really didnt like it, each to their own. Are you happy with the bike?

I love the synapse tiagra 2014. As my first road bike, and only having had a hybrid before hand, I don't know why I didn't get a road bike 6 years ago (when I started cycle commuting). I have nothing to compare against really, but it' is light and has smooth gear changes.
First few rides I had lower back pain, but I think this was just me getting used to the different riding position compared to my 'sit up and beg' hybrid.

I was unsure about a white bike to start with, but the colour has grown on me. It looks so 'fresh' and I think it is easier to clean as you can see al the dirt.

Here is a pic taken 3 weeks ago when it was new. Only difference is the handlebar tape is no longer white, more of a light grey And i put a new saddle on it. (charge Spoon):

I remain to be convinced about the application of disc brakes on a road bike,
Just like Garlic bread it is the future, look at Motorbikes, how many of them do you see with hub brakes now?

Hmmmm, not the most convincing argument per se as hub brakes must have been crap, (too young to know, thank God), and therefore any improvement a blessing.

However, I've never had any issue with rim brakes for my mileages. Well set up and good pads = enough stopping power for every situation I've ever encountered

Hopefully by the time I'm in the market for a new bike, (and if I do fancy discs by then), someone will have developed a cost effective/aesthetically pleasing hydraulic option.

As soon as discs become norm then ABS will follow. Might take 20 years but it will happen.
Don't change the subject, have you ordered the damned bike yet? ^_^

I'm new to road cycling, but I went out and bought the Synapse AL 105 Disc and love it. The discs work great in wet and crud, which is what I wanted them for, especially in these conditions as I haven't had a dry ride yet.
