So far, today has not been great.
Mrs Salad noticed a couple of patches of rising damp in one of the bedroom walls. So that's a job for me to deal with, then!
We went out shopping. Alighting from the car, she contrived to trip over the shoulder strap of her handbag, throw herself headlong on the ground, and mash up her hand in the process. Cue a trip to A & E......
Well, what fun that was! Squealing kids, snivelling adults (most of whom appeared to have chest infections or tuberculosis, judging by their coughs, and were not really needing A & E but instead needed a chest X Ray followed by a long stay in an isolation ward. Or maybe they just need to have given up smoking).
Long initial wait, followed by triage asking for an X Ray.
Long wait for X Ray.
Long wait to be seen by nurse, made all the more pleasant by the smelly and probably mentally ill vagrant who was also waiting to be seen. But hey ho, Mrs Salad did eventually get seen, and got her dislocated finger re-located. Nurse then sent Mrs Salad back for a second X Ray.
Woohoo! only a short wait for the second X Ray. Then back to a long queue before the wound was finally dressed, and put in an elevated sling.
Back to the car park, where I practically had to donate a kidney to pay for the exorbitant parking charge. Join the queue to get out of the car park. And guess what? The barrier has packed up, trapping lots of cars in the process. After another interminable wait, a "maintenance man" sauntered along, fiddled with the barrier and removed the barrier pole.
And so to home, where Mrs Salad is installed on the settee and I will be doing the cooking, cleaning washing and everything for the forseeable future.
National s***e day indeed.
Oh, and we never got to the shops either, so that's another job to add to my list!
