when we see a 999 vehicle approaching with the flashing lights and sirens going, we have no idea what it's attending, whether it's 'worth it' or not, so we should get out of the way as best we can ;-)

Because if nothing else any other vehicles around you are now paying more attention to where the siren is coming from than to a me on a bike.

It must be a lot easier for us to judge the approaching direction of the emergency vehicle a well. No metal and glass to distort the sound.
