So anyway, last week my cassette/chain started slipping... All fine, all I need to do is buy some new components and replace. But then I got thinking about upgrading the whole crackset....

My bike specs are pretty low end, using mostly Shamano Sora/2300 components. But, I believe the frame is a very good quality, it's the same frame the use on a number of much more expensive bikes, it's an aluminium frame/carbon forks.

Sence I have had the bike I have upgraded the wheels and brakes and it was always my intention to upgrade the components as I went along.

But, while it made sense to upgrade my wheels and brakes (I noticed a pretty big improvement with the brakes upgrade) I'm not sure if upgrading the crankset would make any difference at all as I have nothing to compairing it too.

Im more than happy to blow £400 on a 105 crackset if it made a noticeable difference. But obviosly £400 is not exactly pocket change, so I'd rather not waste money if I don't need too

Anyone have any thoughts?

You won't feel much, if any difference. It will shift a bit smoother, it will probably be lighter, it will look better...but you won't feel that much difference (IMO).

I presume you mean groupset - which is the whole shifters/crankset/front & rear mechs/brake calipers etc.(all these terms are a nightmare aren't they  ).

It won't make you go any faster but as gbb says , you get better shifting etc.

If you just mean crankset - then get a lightly used eBay 105 set for £50 - 80.
