Need new tyres for my OH's mtb

I'm needing some new tyres for my OH's mountain bike.

He's on a hard tail, we sometimes do trails, usually red routes, though I suspect he is perfectly capable of black, it's me that's the limiting factor there... often sand and mud on the bridlepaths around here etc...

Not sure on a budget, but something that isn't going to kill the bank balance would be useful (have had to replace my road bike this morning as it is and he had a new(2nd hand) mtb 2 months ago...). He's just killed the set of Schwalbes that came with it though in all fairness neither of us has any idea where this happened and I'm guessing any tyre would have been killed... http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/your-ride-today.8938/post-3049765

Any suggestions please? Good grip - don't mind slowing him down (don't tell him I said that!)... He's temporarily on my mud tyres whilst I'm on the semi-slicks... so time wise I suspect we can last a few weeks if needed... (provided it does not rain too much, my semi-slicks didn't have much grip in some areas today!)

Currently running these

Front http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/TYOOCM26X24/on-one-chunky-monkey-26x24-tyre
Rear http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/TYOOSM26X225/on-one-smorgasbord-26x225-tyre

Happy with them on the trails but they are slow on the tarmac and turning takes some effort on road aswell.

I really like the Specialized Fast Tracks that came on my MTB. Much better than the Conti FireFighter II's I had on the other bike.
I do mainly towpaths, light trails, woods and some cycle paths. They are relatively fast and good grip on loose surfaces and mud. I think they are about £30 each. My bike is a 29er but I'm sure you can get similar spec on a 26 if that what's he's riding.

The Kenda 26"x2.10 tyres that come with the 'Carrera Vengeance' have been good, But! noisy on tarmac and hard work for me. But looking on the Halfords site, they're look to be around the £20 mark?...not what i would call cheap really.

For around Delamere, I reckon you need a deep mud clearing tread. The owner of Trax in Delamere uses wtb Vigilante's but they are quite expensive and I think Bronson's would do the trick too. The wired ones can be had for about 20 each.

I use Schwalbe Nobby Nics, which aren't bad but squirm a bit in Delamere, whereas my old wtb velociraptors didn't but they are old tyres now and slow.....actually they might do you

Me too!

At the moment Specialized are doing deal with some tyres, where you trade your old ones in. I took some old ones with me and they said to keep them.
