Need some help choosing between some bikes please!

I am going to be commuting 8 miles each way daily and I am trying to choose between 3 bikes.

I have seen the Ridgeback Element on another website for £370, which brings it (just) in to my price range.
I do not know a lot about bikes so I am having a hard time deciphering which of these would be the best for my needs. Any help would be massively appreciated!

First up the Neon is an 8 speed and the others are 24 (triple).

You could get away with the 8 speed - but it depends on the terrain of your commute (big hill may need a granny ring) and whether you want to use the bike for pleasure (if so then I'd go for the 24 speed).

As regards the other two - I would not have thought that there is a lot between them as regards performance and kit but the Specialized design has a longer head tube so presenting the bars higher up for comfort. The Ridgeback has a shorter headtube for a more aggressive ride- great if it's windy!
