I've been cycling on a road bike for just over a year now - I regularly ride more than 20 miles a week and compete in 10 mile time trials in the spring/summer. So far I've tracked my rides using a strava app on my I phone and have a cateye strada wireless computer on the front of my bike.

I've been doing a lot of training on the turbo trainer but I have no way to monitor what speed/distance/cadence I'm achieving so am just having to guess - can anyone suggest a cheap(ish) computer that would measure these things...?

Put the speedo on the back wheel. Simples^_^ This will of course not measure cadence.

To really increase your speed put two magnets on.

But do remember speed on a turbo has little in relation to speed on the road, however I fully understand it can help focus.

On a turbo, I just go by time and perceived effort. So many minutes easy warm up, then so many minutes at a steady effort, so many seconds flat out, followed by so many seconds/minutes recovery and so on.

Distance and speed have no real meaning on an uncalibrated turbo trainer, so why use them?

The one I have is a Cateye Astrale 8, still available for about 30 quid. Being able to see your cadence on the turbo is definitely useful for me, other views may vary.

I've a cheap old computer wired to the back wheel. For cadence I simply look at a watch and count - after a while you get a sense of what cadence will product a certain speed in a certain gear. More pocket science than rocket science.

Boardman do a cycle computer with cadence sensor, all wireless. Cost is around £35. I use on and it's fine.
