Hi Guys,

I'm after a netbook for writing documents whilst on trains/out and about etc not after anything special; just needs to have/be:

Small (10"ish).
USB, ethernet and wifi compatible.
Windows OS.
Fully working and in decent nick.

I can get a refurbished model for c.£150 so let's be sensible with the offers; Like I say I'm looking to buy cheap, nothing special.

Thanks,
GB

If that's your budget I'd get a Nexus 7 instead at £129. My experience of netbooks at the lower end is not a good one, and you'll get frustrated pretty quickly.

Hi Liam. If you don't have any joy here, take a look at these Dell D430s on eBay for £119.99.

I have been using my D430 since 2008 and have been very pleased with it. The keyboard is one of the best I've used on a portable computer and the trackpad is pretty good too. The 12" screen has an anti-glare coating which makes it unexciting for watching movies, but it is much better than a glossy screen for working on in varying lighting conditions. With the standard battery, it doesn't have a super-long life between charges, but it is pretty light - ~1.5kg. No internal optical drive but if you need one, you can buy an external one. The memory is limited to 2 GB, but that is fine for Win XP.

I think it is a great compromise between size and usability. The extra screen size over smaller netbooks is nice, though the machine is probably a couple of hundred grams heavier as a result.

Writing documents on a touchscreen is an exercise in futility IMHO.
I would advise anyone wanting a netbook to be quick about it - they're on the way out, according to El Reg.
Shame, as my Samsung NC10 is ruddy superb.

In reply to everyone else:

Thanks for the Nexus 7 suggestion; however, I'm not too keen on tablets and find them a bit of a faff (a cool faff though), I'd be much happier with a netbook.

ColinJ- I'll keep that in mind if nothing comes of this; looks good and it's always nice to have someone's after use opinion.
