It has been a while since I had new batteries for my rear lights but in Aldi today, I just decided to get some. When I popped them into me light, I was amazed at how bright they actually were.
I have two lights on the rear, a cateye and cheap 3 led one. The cateye is new and is bright, but now the 3 led rivals it. I am glad that I purchased them.

Me too, in fact I've just stocked up as I had a 'free' voucher for Argos and couldn't think what to use it for so got some rechargeable AAA's and AA's, now need more rear lights to fit them into

Rechargeables.

I see folk too often with 'normal' batteries with dim lights.

Get off to Planet X and stock up on some of the cheap Phaart rear lights.

I am always very aware of the brightness of my lights and always take spare batteries with me (just enough power to see me home).

I should have rechargables but Aldi were doing 8 for £1.99 which is a price I couldnt ignore. Rechargables are about £7. I think I had a good deal.

I find my not so bright chapo rear lights last for weeks with the same batteries, the decent 1/2 watt or 1 watt ones need changing regularly so it makes sense to have rechargeables in those

Order rechargeables over the net or Maplin when on offer. Rechargeables in the shops are silly money - order on-line and you get a very similar price to RRP on a set of Alkalines, i.e. about £4 for AA's

Talking about lights has urged me to fit the odd led light I have lying around to my bike, just because winter is here. I dont really need to but the more lights the better.

I have been using Vapex rechargeables for a good 12months now with good results. I have 3 rear lights fitted and 2 front units. Use mine on dull grey days as well as night time (motorcyclist habit).

Sane here, discharge mine fully in a torch at the end of the week and charge them brim full ready for the weak ahead. Can't believe any regular night-rider wouldn't already use recgargeables.

As our OP rightly points out, good batteries are a must.

LiDL were recently selling rechargeable batteries at 4 for £3.99 (AA 2100mHa, AAA 850mHa). Not the best but they work. If you've a local store it's worth popping in to see whether they have any left.

Sanyo eneloop rechargeables for me. Brilliant batteries, I charge my front lights when I struggle to see down the unlit stretches, rear light has a small light that stays on when the batteries need recharging. I always have a small usb charger with me and spare batteries as well
