Just finished building a new bike for Mrs Kes.

Dolan Prefissio frameset.
Full SRAM Apex groupset.
Fulcrum Racing T wheels.
Deda Zero bars and Stem.

Ordered the frameset on Sunday, it arrived Tuesday. Nicely boxed-up frame, forks, seatpost, headset and mech clamp. The frame is marketed as a winter trainer and has full guard mounts, and loads of clearance. The welds are neat and the paintjob a very shiny red white and black which looks really good with a nice colour depth, and well applied graphics (not too garish). The head tube is very short, allowing a very aggressive position - this has been offset somewhat by a higher steerer for now.

Assembly was straight forward. Everything fitted with no drama. The frame BB area had clean threads and appeared to have been well faced with no paint overspray. The headset was a little tight and the bearings needed a little gentle "persuasion" before slipping into the frame.

SRAM crankset/BB was easy to fit, somewhat simpler than Shimano, as the non drive side simply screws on with a big allen key rather than needing to be preloaded.

Front and rear mechs mounted and setup easily. The SRAM front mech needs to be bang on distance wise from the chainring, but once in place shifting was crisp and easy. Rear mech supports upto a 32 cassette (fitted) which looks like a dinner plate but gives same range as a triple.

Fulcrum Racing T wheels with Durano S tryes, these were on offer, and look much more expensive. They roll well straight out of the box, are reasonably light, very true with even (high) spolke tension.

Bars and stem were Deda Zero items, selected for small reach and low drop. Both nice for the price.

With regards to the suppliers, the frame came from Dolan in 2 days.
Groupset and wheels from Merlin - special offer price on both and cant fault them for delivery speed or price.
Bar, stem and tape from Wiggle - again good service/price (and free haribo)

Overall bike is maybe not the lightest in the world, but rides exceptionally well, can be equiped for winter riding and looks very nice. Result = One very happy Mrs Kes.

Frameset £199
Groupset £325
Wheels £115
Bar/Stem/Tape £50
Total Cost £689

A similar build on the Dolan site (with Aksium wheels which are nearest equivalent to the Racing T) comes to just over £900.

There aren't many bikes that come with an SRAM Apex setup which limited the choice as this was what she wanted.

The fact Mrs Kes is fairly short, and also has flexibility/mobility problems following a bike smash a couple of yrs ago meant we also needed a bike with a short TT and lower stepover height. Finding something suitable has been "interesting" to say the least. So I decided to build it from scratch using the components she wanted.
