Evening all,

I used to ride quite a bit as a child, and just have given up due to moving, being able to use a car, work etc etc. Now, a couple of years on, I am now in a situation where my partner needs our car for work, and we cannot afford to run a second car, therefore we have decided that if I got back into cycling again, I could get around on a bike.

My partner is looking at getting me a bike for Christmas. I am thinking that a road bike will be most suitable for my needs. The issue we have is we are quite specific in terms of what we need, and I am struggling to find what something that checks all our boxes:
- £250 tops
- Lightweight as I need to take it up and down a flight of stairs every time I use it
- Something which will help me get back into cycling

Any help would be much appreciated.

£250 won't get you a road bike, unless you go 2nd hand. For a new bike the Halfords tdf is OK and Decathlon have the Triban 3

Only if you know what your looking at. Lots of good bikes out there, but equally a lot of rubbish as well

I can see loads looking around, but obviously don't know what I am looking for! I can see getting a bike for under £250 is going to be hard work!

I work in bikehut at the maidenhead branch of halfords and can tell you that if you place a deposite on the tdf at its current price, you will infact be able to get it at sale price after Monday! They are solid bikes and I think you'd be hard pushed to find better value for money elsewhere! Just food for thought.
